(his 9th win of 2007 came in september). and he didn't look like an old man at all, this was a great performance.

Well I think we are about a 1/2 game out of first place at first pitch tonight.

A few notable notes from Brother Bartles:

Our young pitching: Has vastly surprised nobody. We knew Lester was going to be a big time pitcher when he started off 4-0 in mid-'06, he just had a few bumps in the road. Bucholtz looks to have more potential than even Lester! Only problem is that he doesn't seem as durable. Oh, we should mention Papelbon, he's been around since mid-'05 and been getting paid less than a million a year to be our lights out man, he's completely taken for granted. Delcarmen has been steady in the bullpen. And lastly Masterson looks to be a top 3 starter someday, he's just so good you hardly notice he isn't giving up any runs.

As for the older guys: Wakefield, jeez I feel like one day i'll bring my first born to see him pitch and this hypothetical kid hasn't even been born yet. Schill, who cares really...just retire dude but really thanks for the memories...you're the man...now go away. BARTOLO COLON! former cy young winner, signed to a minor league contract during spring training. That was a Cashman-like signing if there ever was one. Timlin, every time we say he's done there he is in the playoffs killing innings.

Prime years pitchers: Beckett, god, I hope we re-sign but he is going to make a disgusting amount of money if he stays healthy. Dice-K, what's he like 8-0 and on the DL? I'll take that...he hasn't been the force of nature we thought he would be, but he hasn't exactly struggled either.

NEW YORK - So much for the curse. The New York Yankees have ended a construction worker's attempt to jinx their new stadium with a buried Boston Red Sox jersey.

Team officials watched Sunday as construction workers removed the jersey, with slugger David Ortiz's name on it, from 2 feet of concrete in a service corridor of the stadium that's under construction.

The team says a construction worker — who is a Red Sox fan — recently buried the jersey there while on the job. Two other supervisors found the tattered shirt Saturday.

The Yankees plan to donate the jersey to charity, and may pursue a lawsuit against the construction worker.

Girardi is a genius. Start with the bullpen and then go to your starter in the sixth inning of a game that you are losing. I love that Girardi was trying to out-smart the weather. A Golden Fenway Moment

Dice-K and Beckett clearly aren't pitching in a dominant fashion (which is what got us here in the first place)

But what this all proves is that Manny, not Schilling, is the heart of this team. With him out we really are an average at best line-up.

Hi kids! Well 7.5 games up in the A.L. East with roughly 60 games to go. I'll take it. Here's the crusher though, the Yankees have the Indians, Detroit and Angels and BoSox in August. Then it's a healthy platter of Tampa Bay, Baltimore and remarkably more K.C. in September. 8 games against Detroit in August! Holy cow. Red Sox have 7 games vs. L.A. in August. So basically we will have good idea where things stand before September rolls around. That is unfortunate news for the Yanks brass because the trading deadline will have passed, meaning if things go south the A.L. East traveling all-star team of legends (Yanks) will all be playing golf soon. Roger Clemens is 3-4 w/ a E.R.A. of 3.72. Oh yeah and he's a money-grubbing slut. Who played 13 years for the Red Sox. Carl Pavano pitched in 11 innings this year in 2 starts, making $10 mil this year. No word yet if he'll ever pitch again seeing as how he's on permanent vacation. These are two guys the Red Sox wanted to sign in their last available free agent terms, thank G-O-D the Yankees beat us to it, don't forget Jose Contreras too we wanted him real bad. A gentle reminder that it's all about pitching in the post-season.

Mike Mussina (3-3) pitched 7 2/3 strong innings, recording a season-high seven strikeouts in his first win since May 9. He also is the first major league pitcher to rack up 20 wins in interleague play.
The Yankees have now won 11 of their last 13 games and are a game above .500 at 32-31, the first time they have been there since being 8-7 on April 20.
Jorge Posada also homered in the second inning for the Yankees to tie the score at 1-1.
Bobby Abreu extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a fourth inning single.
Chris Young had given the Diamondbacks a 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly in the first inning.

50 some odd days until the trade deadline, you know moves are going to be made. Everybody in New England doesn't know it yet but we need a catcher prospect to replace (back-up for awhile) Varitek. who is 35 and aging like the anti-Dorian Gray.

The Yanks need bullpen help big time, guess what texas has a guy, he's ok you may have heard of him, his name is...um...Eric Gagne. It seems to good to be true that the Yanks would end up with 2/3 of the best closers of the past decade on the same time. Of course the small type here is that they're both in the "past-prime but still kinda got it" era of their respective careers. BTW Trevor Hoffman would complete the trilogy.

Meanwhile the Yanks are edging closer...they don't die and I never believed that they do, but with mattingly at the helm, I'm not worried. He's like Tony Soprano's son, AJ, he doesn't know how to run the show....don't make him prove his worthlessness again.

History in the making?

Oakland is owning Boston. and the Yankees are struggling their way back towards mediocrity. at least they're not losing every game this week. we'll see. Wang gave them what they needed- a complete game, i think it has been about a year since a Yankee pitcher threw one. it was Wang, last July... Batters are looking stronger... I'm almost ready to believe again. and not just in the wild card, i believe the Yankees always get the best stories in history, this year it will be written. Boston's Collapse and The Miracle Yanks!!!

State of the Rivalry

Here we are in the first weekend of June. June people!

The Yankees are currently 13.5 games back behind the division leader. They also have one game at that particular leaders' home and then go on the road to play the Chicago White Sox for a four game stretch without new free agent signing Roger Clemens (who will be out for the series with a minor groin pull).

Let me declare this series is still very relevant, the Yankees have the best line-up in baseball, pitching throughout the league will continue to get banged-up. However they also have a bullpen that is getting more and more banged up as the year progresses. You really can take the effort to blame coach Joe Torre for this infraction against his arms.

Calling for his job is another matter, this is a guy who has coached the Yankees to 6 W.S. appearances! Give him a shitty bullpen and you have exposed his weakness, he overuses his bullpen every year. He has an uncanny knack for knowing when a guy is toast and when to start warming up a xouple relievers, give him bad pitching all- around and you are setting him up for disaster. Still Joe should be untouchable.

The Sox meanwhile continue to be the team that just wins the majoity of its' games. I have always been a believer in the theory that if you take 2/3 in every series you will win your division very easily and although it sounds like common sense, nobody really goes all out for that stat like they should....until now.

Francona is flying under the radar like a U-2 plane in China these days. if he wins a W.S. again he might go down as the 3rd most popular coach in Boston history. (1. Red Auerbach, 2. Bill Belichiek, 3. Tito Francona) and this Sox team doesn't look close to done, especially compared to the Yankees team of 2007:

Clemens, Pettite: I would be shocked if these guys play another season
Damon: Looks like a 12 year old when he throws the ball.
A-Rod: Soooooo gone after this year, really, do think he likes N.Y.?
Giambi: 'Nuff said. They might just make him disappear altogether (he's a 10/5 guy)
