He seemed OK at accident scene, but died hours later at hospital

(March 31, 2007) — GREECE — A Greece man who died in a crash early Friday had gotten out of his damaged vehicle and was walking around and talking before he collapsed and succumbed to his injuries.
Daniel Hutchings, 27, was southbound on Dewey Avenue when his car slammed into a utility pole at McGuire Road about 12:15 a.m., said police Lt. Steve Chatterton.
"He got out of the car by himself," said Chatterton, who was at the scene."He was talking to ambulance people. He sat on the ground, he was talking to eyewitnesses."
Thinking the crash was not that serious, Chatterton left the scene. He got a call a short time later, indicating Hutchings had died at Strong Memorial Hospital, where he was taken for treatment and observation.
"I was shocked," Chatterton said."From the damage on the car, all the damage was on the passenger side. The driver's side was pretty intact."Hutchings apparently was not wearing a seatbelt, police said.
The Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office is investigating the cause of death

***i was really deeply saddened by this yesterday. but after reading the obit today i just feel sick to my stomach. somehow an obit makes it real. but i was laughing a bit thinking about how pissed he was that i was quitting the bowling team. it was like i was breaking up the beatles or something. shit- that had to be like 8th or 9th grade. he will be missed...

When i woke up this morning my mother said that my friend had died. I thought she meant Bartles.
(good to see you still alive- you looking like a saint...)

Dan Hutchings was a very close childhood friend. and a good man.
i haven't seen him since 1998. this is just awful.
how come everyone around here dies by crashing into poles, less than a quarter mile from their house.
